Community Service update: As 2010 closes the IMA is proud to have participated in over 13 events supporting Education, Animal Protection & Health Sectors and clocked approximately 165 hours. IMA thanks every participant in the program and realizes kindness comes in many forms but always from the heart.

Next up for 2011 is Financial Literacy Trainers to enhance the financial wellness of our communities. Topics include buying a home, saving by paying yourself first, checking & budgeting to manage money, credit card and loans what you don't know will hurt you. We need 20 volunteers before we can schedule a Train the Trainer class in financial literacy. This is an activity that runs all year, usually evenings from 5:30 - 7 and/or an hour or 2 on Saturdays. Those interested are requested to contact Cathy Guerriero, Charity Chair.

March 2010

Taxes never felt so good!  On February 13th, Joyce Barden, ASWA member and Sr. Professor at DeVry opened their computer lab to host a special class for IMA and ASWA VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers.  Mindy Casey, ASWA alumni trained and mentored 25 VITA volunteers through VITA certification.  VITA isn’t a one time event. VITA volunteers commit to 20 hours of service annually and strengthen communities.

IMA wants to thank all IMA and ASWA members who volunteered at the Special Olympics "Waste Management Open" concession tent on Feb 28th.  IMA and ASWA teamed up to benefit Special Olympics.  Volunteer turnout was 27 strong!  This is the 2nd year we participated and by the looks of it Special Olympics hasn’t seen the last of us!

Next up: Saturday, April 24, 2010 marks the launch of West Valley Cancer Connections with a walk and health fair of complimentary therapies and services for those impacted by cancer. The inaugural event is hosted by The City of Glendale Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center.  We are currently soliciting for volunteers, health fair vendors and silent auction & drawing contributions.  All inquiries are welcome.  Download the flyer here.

Thank you to Cheryl, Russell, Christina, Heather, Cassandra, Dominique who joined Deborah Michalowski’s walk for ALS team Oct 11th at Tempe Town Lake. Even though the heat prompted many to turn left for the 2k a few of us grabbed more water and finished the 5k! Our team raised $290 of the $240,000 raised in the Tempe Walk!

Next up is the Walk for Autism, Nov 1 Tempe Town Lake. Come support IMA member Dominique Dancause, by joining her team at: here.

On Oct 15th, ASWA members donated bags of goodies to support IMA's year long Humane Society drive. Want to clean out your closets of old towels, pet toys and supplies? Bring them to any one of the IMA meetings for donation. Kathleen Moran is making deliveries to the Humane Society regularly. Want to do more…talk with Kathleen about becoming a short term foster pet parent.

Have a special interest? We want to know how we can help you. Contact me at cguerriero01@yahoo.com or (845) 304-9572.

Dec is Special Olympics…get ready, go!

Help us out at the August Meeting - The Humane Society Drive!

In July IMA members collected over 9 bags of goodies that will enhance the lives of shelter animals. Missed the July meeting? No worries. Grab some pet toys & food, towels, treats, cheerios, etc. and bring them with you to the Aug 18th meeting. Your gifts are priceless and desperately needed. Want to be a foster pet parent for a few weeks? Contact Kathleen Moran, IMA President for more information.

Goodies for the Humane Society!

The Humane Society is feeling the economic impact with a decrease in donations, and an increase in animal turn ins as people move from their homes. It is kitten season and there is currently a crisis as 2,000 kittens were turned in within the first 3 weeks of May alone. At the June 16th meeting members were requested to collect old towels, bath mats, kitty and puppy toys, canned cat and dog food, cheerios and hard/soft treats as a chapter Community Service program. Bring what you can to the July meeting and Kathleen Moren will deliver the gifts to the Humane Society. Gifts will help enhance the lives of animals as they await adoption. Towels are used to provide a comfortable bed while the cats and dogs await their new forever home. Temporary Foster Care Parents are also needed. Foster care can be for 2 weeks to a few months, and you get to choose which case you would like to take. The Humane Society pays for all of the medical expenses, all you do is provide love and a warm bed. Immediate adoption is also available. Visit www.azhumane.org or email Kathleen Moren or Cathy Guerriero for more information. Thank you for caring for animals that can not care for themselves.
